Nacida en Zaragoza, Pilar Citoler, es una piedra angular del coleccionismo español contemporáneo.

La colección CIRCA XX que precede a la NUEVA COLECCIÓN PILAR CITOLER reúne en cuarenta años, aproximadamente 1200 piezas tanto nacionales como internacionales. Abarca varias disciplinas tales como pintura, escultura, fotografía, video, instalaciones y obras gráficas que cubren los principales movimientos históricos tanto españoles como internacionales. Desde el informalismo del Grupo El Paso, los abstractos de la Escuela de Cuenca, pasando por el Pop Art americano e inglès, la Movida de los 80, la colección se extiende hasta el siglo XXI. 

En 2013, Pilar Citoler cede una gran parte de su colección CIRCA XX al Instituto Aragonés de Arte Contemporáneo Pablo Serrano (IAACC), de Zaragoza.

Desde entonces, la coleccionista ha proseguido con su proyecto iniciando una NUEVA COLECCIÓN que mantiene el mismo nivel de exigencia y se centra con el mismo tesón y curiosidad en los artistas tanto históricos como en las personalidades singulares e inclasificables de la nueva generación.

La exposición “Nueva Colección Pilar Citoler. ¡Fiat Lux!” (“Hágase la luz”) presenta el trabajo de 34 artistas en pintura y fotografía.

Permite interrogarse sobre el coleccionismo tal y como Pilar Citoler lo entiende: una actividad artística, una herramienta de conocimiento de su época y por lo tanto de sí misma.

Born in Zaragoza, Pilar Citoler, is a cornerstone of contemporary Spanish collecting.

The CIRCA XX collection that precedes the NEW PILAR CITOLER COLLECTION gathers, in forty years, approximately 1200 pieces, both national and international. Includes various disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, video, installations and graphic works that cover the main historical movements, both Spanish and international. From the informalism of the El Paso Group, the abstracts of the Cuenca School, through American and English Pop Art, the Movida of the 80s, the collection extends to the 21st century.

In 2013, Pilar Citoler ceded a large part of her CIRCA XX collection to the Aragonese Institute of Contemporary Art Pablo Serrano (IAACC), in Zaragoza.

Since then, the collector has continued her project by starting a NEW COLLECTION that maintains the same level of demand and focuses with the same determination and curiosity on both historical artists and the unique and unclassifiable personalities of the new generation.

The exhibition “New Pilar Citoler Collection. Fiat Lux! ” (“Let there be light”) presents the work of 34 artists in painting and photography.

It allows us to ask ourselves about collecting as Pilar Citoler understands it: an artistic activity, a knowledge tool of its time and therefore of itself.
